Também deixemos de lado o fato de que a maior função dos sinais e regras de trânsito não é a segurança, mas a possibilidade de impor multas e, portanto, aumentar as verbas do Estado.)
O experimento ilustrou o conceito de "ordem espontânea", segundo a qual as pessoas por si mesmas estabelecem, através de sua própria interação, uma ordem que funciona melhor do que qualquer comando central.
Será que isso ocorre com todo fenômeno social?
Em alguns casos, pareceria que sim. A economia é o caso clássico. Só no Quebec, por exemplo, a cada ano são criadas 11.000 páginas de novas leis. Nos Estados Unidos, há tantas leis que nem mesmo os jurados as entendem.
Não surpreende portanto que, em países ainda mais bananeiros como o Brasil, já haja leis controlando que a banana seja vendida por quilo, ou que na ultraburocrática União Européia agora queiram regular até o volume máximo dos aparelhos mp3.
Tais fatos são lamentáveis, pois a partir daí alguns cínicos poderiam concluir que a maioria das leis atende a outros interesses que não os da sociedade como um todo, e que os políticos e os advogados não estão tão interessados no bem-estar do povo como no de seus próprios bolsos.

Com o devido respeito aos liberais de plantão, esse negócio de acabar com as regras de trânsito alegando que há uma melhora é meio tolo. Primeiro, não ficou claro se eles acabaram com as regras ou apenas com a sinalização delas. Se forem com as regras é ainda mais tolo ainda. Deixo aqui um exemplo: num cruzamento nãp sinalizado, como devem os motoristas se comportar. A regra diz que a preferência é de quem vem pela direita, mas sem regras cada um pode achar que é a preferência é sua ou ambos pode achar ela é do outro e o trânsito empaca. Claro que num vilarejo, você ter a velocidade média do tráfego caindo de 50km/h para 25Km/h pode não causar grandes impactos, mas numa cidade maior a coisa complica. Esse é o sonho de todo governo local: não gastar para manter a sinalização em dia. Aliás, no Rio somos pioneiros...
Em vez de liberais acima, leia-se libertários.
